Hootsuite has almost been unanimously voted the best social media management tool on web, but when it came to the mobile version, it was clear that there are still a lot of improvements to be made and Tweetdeck is still preferred over it for many reasons.
Since its very inception, Hootsuite has always been on the lookout for improvement. The acquisition of the Android Developer Swift App in March’12 was a clear indication that Hootsuite has identified its weak spot and is on a lookout for improvement. Quoting from Hootsuite,
March 12, Vancouver, CANADA – HootSuite Media, Inc. have acquired Swift App, Inc. a company specializing in Android™ App development, notably their flagship product “Swift App,” a Twitter client for Android. The acquisition means quicker development for the growing Android market and is a show of support for the emerging mobile platform.
There has been a lot of improvements since then but still the Android version was unable to match up with the benchmark that was set up by the web based version. In its endeavor to improve upon the same, Hootsuite has now acquired Seesmic – another prolific Social Media Management Tool. Seesmic has always been a very close competition to both Hootsuite and Tweetdeck for the most preferred Android client for twitter. This move looks to be targeted not only to eliminate competition but also at improving on the same by integrating the technology with that of Seesmic. This acquisition also means that Hootsuite automatically acquires all Seesmic users.

With the Seesmic acquisition by Hootsuite , one boxing contender has been managed. It might be a very positive and aggressive move by Hootsuite to go forward with the acquisition of Seesmic but it is going to be a challenge to keep up with the expectations of the users that have migrated from Seesmic to Hootsuite. Only time will tell how efficiently Hootsuite manages to keep up with this, but one thing is for sure, and that is that Hootsuite is not willing to leave any stone unturned in occupying the topmost position in this vertical.
